eridiana's grapes are all sustainably farmed and gently vinified to produce elegant, dry, fruit-driven and characteristically Maltese white and red wines. Although the Company's red wines are all matured for at least 12 months in French oak, the red Celsius is matured for a further 12 months in the bottle. Furthermore, the Company's red wines are intentionally not filtered so as to protect their essential character. The Company's white Mistral is fermented in French oak.

Meridiana's portfolio includes the following wines:

White Wines

I S I S

(Chardonnay of Malta)

Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, Isis is characterised by fresh, natural, tropical fruit flavours. The name Isis recalls the Phoenician goddess of sailors whose vigilant eye still graces the prow of the Maltese fishing luzzu.

M I S T R A L

(Premium, Barrel-Fermented Chardonnay of Malta)

Made exclusively from mature Chardonnay grapes, Mistral is fermented on its lees in new French oak barriques. This premium white wine is characterised by a delicate balance between its firm, complex structure, its ripe acidity and its buttery peach-like fruitiness. The name Mistral derives from Malta's prevailingly North Westerly wind which cools the Company's vineyard, thus favouring the cultivation of the Chardonnay grape.

Red Wines

M E L Q A R T

(Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot of Malta)

Made from an artful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, Melqart is characterised by ripe berry flavours which are enhanced by careful maturation in barrique. The name Melqart recalls the Phoenician god of sailors worshipped in Malta during the Punic period.

B E L

(Syrah of Malta)

Made exclusively from Syrah grapes, Bel is characterised by silky, prune and peppery spice flavours which are enhanced by careful maturation in barrique. The name Bel recalls the Phoenician god of fertility worshipped under various names throughout the Punic world.

N E X U S

(Merlot of Malta)

Made exclusively from Merlot grapes, Nexus is characterised by soft, ripe cherry-plum flavours which are enhanced by careful maturation in barrique. The name Nexus celebrates the marriage between Malta's Old World geographical location and the Company's New World vinicultural technology.

C E L S I U S   R E S E R V E

(Cabernet Sauvignon of Malta)

Made from longer-aged Cabernet Sauvignon, Celsius is characterised by chocolate-blackcurrant flavours which are enhanced by careful maturation in barrique. The name Celsius highlights the central role played by temperature control in the Company's winemaking philosophy.

The Phoenician inspiration behind some of the names of Meridiana's wines is twofold: firstly, Malta's uniqueness in possessing a Semitic, reputedly Phoenician-derived, language within the European group of nations; secondly, the important role played by the Phoenicians in disseminating the Vitis Vinifera wine-grape species and the science of winemaking from Asia Minor to Western Civilization via Ancient Greece.
